ABOUT
The
Company was started in 2000 after many long years of working
for other people, Steve's background started with a full indentured
Engineering apprenticeship with British Nuclear Fuels, leading
to a higher diploma in Engineering and full skills in machine
tool work, sheet work, bearing work, Gas/Mig/Arc/TIG welding,
mechanical skills and fitting, electrical and electronic skills,
one of the true multi-skilled Engineers, after the third year
it was apparent that there was a bias towards motor engineering
and so the last 2 years were tailored to that degree. During
the final year Steve and a few other similarly gifted Engineers
were lent to Vauxhall motors in an effort to solve the camshaft
production problems of the Chevette engine, this was achieved
within 3 months and cured the early overheating problems.
It
was after this period way back in 1978 that work dried up in
and around the Merseyside area and Steve was left to find work
elsewhere, at that time Mitsubishi Motors were looking for fully
qualified Motor Engineers for a small project they were working
on, namely the electronic engine management system, it was one
of Steve's remits to introduce a signal into the unit from a
simple 4 point lambda probe to constantly correct the mixture
of the fuel/air ratio and this was achieved in 1979 with the
first engine management system introduced by Mitsubishi, all
subsequent vehicles from that point carried a small amount of
the original and unique code from the original box, even to
this day, needless to say Steve went on to further design with
Mitsubishi and was also responsible for the transfer box on
the Shogun and was on the team for race preparing the Starion
turbo that Colin Chapman used to race for Mitsubishi.
In
1981 Steve bought his first VW and was hooked from that moment,
a type 2 bay window with a 1.6ltr. air cooled engine, it was
a dog of a machine but it lasted many years until in 1991 a
type 25 (T3) was bought, "Genevieve" this had an updated
more powerful 2.0 ltr air cooled engine, was much larger and
comfier than the type 2 and everything worked well including
the heater, we still have her today, we also have a 1969 1500
Beetle deluxe and a 1972 1300 Beetle.
Steve
is also instrumental in starting the Type 25 owners Club "Club80-90"
along with Simon Baxter they builtup this Club into a great
social and technical resource, and they ran it between them
for many years before it was passed on to other members to run
whilst Steve and Simon went onto other things.
Steve
completed various contract for Government, Ministry of Defence
and private corporations before making the decision to go out
on his own.
The
passion was always with the air cooled VW flat four engine and
the Porsche flat 6 engine, many weekends were spent doing "foreigners"
until in 1999 it was decided to open by himself, just another
garage was not the remit and with LPG on the increase as a viable
alternative fuel, Steve booked and paid for a training course
with OMVL Italy and hence sprung up Gasure.UK.
